Rain Prayer

RAIN PRAYER

Forest fires raged here in the mountains of Andalucia for 6 days recently. It started to get quite scary one night when the wind picked up. The fire burned high and wide and the sky went bright red. We were 10 km away from the fire but already 2 villages had been evacuated. Looking east the fire was spreading up and over the mountain.

As a community we sang and cried and drummed for rain that night. Visioning raging waterfalls, huge rain soaked clouds, torrential downpours. I’m sure many of us had a sleepless night wondering if we would hear blessed drops of rain hitting the ground. And we did. At first it was a little drizzle then we had a few bursts of heavy rain. Our prayers were answered. It was enough to quench the ground and calm the flames.
